State Budget Includes $60K For Marlborough Furniture Bank

The funding would allow the nonprofit to purchase an all-electric van to help collect donated furniture and household goods.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough nonprofit that helps furnish homes for low-income families across Massachusetts is expected to receive a major boost through the state budget process.

New Life Furniture Bank, based in downtown Marlborough, is slated to receive $60,000 through an earmark included in the Massachusetts Senate’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget proposal, according to Sen. Jamie Eldridge.

“I was proud to secure several earmarks to support non-profits and municipalities in the Middlesex and Worcester district,” Eldridge wrote in a social media post on Wednesday. “One of them is $60,000 for New Life Furniture Bank in downtown Marlborough.”

The funding would allow the nonprofit to purchase an all-electric van to help collect donated furniture and household goods, Eldridge said.

“Kudos to New Life for being environmentally conscious — and commonsense in buying a longer lasting, faster vehicle,” he added.

Founded in 2013, New Life Furniture Bank provides donated furniture, kitchenware and household essentials to individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness, escaping domestic violence, or otherwise facing financial hardship. The organization serves clients through referrals from social service agencies across central and eastern Massachusetts.

According to the nonprofit, it has helped thousands of families create stable living spaces by redistributing gently used furniture and household items that might otherwise end up in landfills. The group relies heavily on volunteers and community donations to carry out its mission.
