MARLBOROUGH, MA — A fundraiser for a Marlborough wedding photographer stabbed while working at a Maine reception has raised more than $22,000 as he recovers from serious injuries.
Donald Halsing, 26, was photographing a wedding with his fiancée, Ashley Wall, at Kingsley Campground in Raymond, Maine, on May 23 when he was stabbed in the chest during what authorities described as an apparently unprovoked attack, according to WMTW. A GoFundMe organized to help the couple says Halsing suffered two lacerations, including one to his liver, and underwent emergency surgery.
Deputies responded to the campground at about 7:03 p.m. after reports of a stabbing, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office via WMTW. Halsing was taken by the Raymond Fire Department to Maine Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses identified Andrew Manderson, 26, as the suspect, and deputies took him into custody shortly after arriving, according to WMTW. Manderson was charged with elevated aggravated assault.
The Boston Globe identified Halsing as a Marlborough resident and reported he spent five days in the hospital after the stabbing. Manderson, of Scarborough, Maine, is free on $50,000 bail and due back in court Oct. 27, according to the Globe.
The GoFundMe says Halsing and Wall had traveled to the Portland, Maine, area to photograph the wedding, and that Halsing was taking pictures of guests on the dance floor when he was attacked by a wedding guest.
The fundraiser aims to help the couple cover medical expenses, travel, food, lost work time, and other recovery costs. Halsing and Wall had recently moved into their first home together, and Wall was supposed to celebrate her bridal shower the day after the stabbing, according to the fundraiser.
The couple have been together nearly eight years and are planning their own wedding later this year, according to the GoFundMe.
