MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough will begin working with a new emergency ambulance provider this week.
Coastal Medical Transportation Systems will become the city's new emergency ambulance service provider, with operations set to begin July 1, Mayor J. Christian Dumais announced Monday.
Coastal, founded in 2013, provides emergency and non-emergency medical transportation, mobile healthcare services and specialty event coverage in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and southern New Hampshire, according to the announcement.
Dumais said Coastal's experience and "strong commitment to collaboration" will help support emergency medical services in the city.
"Their reputation for quality care and operational excellence, combined with a strong commitment to collaboration, will help strengthen emergency medical services and support the needs of our growing community," Dumais said in the announcement.
Coastal already has a presence in Marlborough through its work with UMass Memorial Medical Center-Marlborough Hospital, city officials said.
Alex Theoharidis, CEO of Coastal Medical Transportation Systems, said the company is committed to providing patient care while working with Marlborough public safety partners.
Fire Chief Jeffrey Gogan said the partnership is expected to improve ambulance coverage in the city, including faster response times, improved reliability and reduced reliance on mutual aid resources.
Police Chief David Giorgi said the department looks forward to working with Coastal.
