MARLBOROUGH, MA — A memorial race is set to return to Marlborough this fall with a new format centered on running and functional-fitness stations.
The Sgt. William Kirby Memorial Hybrid Obstacle Police Chase will take place on Sept. 26 at the new Hudson Street Park near the Rail Trail and Fort Meadow Reservoir. The race will be a half Hyrox-style simulation, not a full Hyrox race.
Hyrox combines endurance running with functional strength exercises, and the Marlborough event will include C2 rowing, sandbag lunges, farmers carries, burpees and C2 biking, with 1K runs between stations.
Participants can register as individuals or partners, and stations can be scaled by weight or format to fit different fitness levels.
Heats are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and go off every 15 minutes, with the race expected to end around noon, according to the event listing. Registration is open online through Competition Corner.
The MPD K9 Block Party will begin after the race and run from noon to 7 p.m. The free public event will feature a performance by Disco Lemonade, and food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Race registration starts at $45 for individuals and $90 for teams. You can register here.
Organizers are also seeking sponsors and volunteers for the event. Police said anyone interested in volunteering should contact Patrick Hogan.
