Marlborough Police Introduce School Resource Officers For New School Year

Three Marlborough police officers will work across the city's schools as students begin the new academic year.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Three Marlborough police officers will work across the city's schools as students begin the new academic year.

Officer Basquiat will serve at Marlborough High School, Officer Edmonds will be assigned to Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School and Officer A. Atwood will cover Whitcomb Middle School and the city's elementary schools, according to the Marlborough Police Department.

Basquiat has worked for the department for 26 years and is entering his fifth year as the school resource officer at Marlborough High. He also helps train new police officers as a staff instructor at the MPTC Marlborough Police Academy.

Edmonds has been with the department for six years and has served as Assabet's school resource officer for the past three years.

Atwood is the department's newest school resource officer. Before becoming a police officer nearly two years ago, she worked as a dispatcher for the department.

School resource officers help protect students and staff while also attending events, working with educators and administrators, assisting families and addressing problems within the school community, according to police. The department said everyday interactions between officers and students can help build relationships and trust.
