MARLBOROUGH, MA — More than 30,000 hourly BJ's Wholesale Club employees received an anniversary surprise this week.
The Marlborough-based retailer awarded workers more than $25 million in BJ's gift cards during celebrations at its clubs and distribution centers on Wednesday, the company said. The gift cards ranged from $250 to $2,000 based on each employee's tenure and marked BJ's 42nd anniversary.
BJ's called the distribution the largest employee recognition award in the company's history.
"Our team members are essential to delivering unbeatable value and service every day," Chairman and CEO Bob Eddy said in the announcement. "They are the foundation of our success, and these awards are a way to thank them for their commitment to our company and our members."
BJ's opened its first club in Medford in 1984. The company now serves more than 8.5 million members through 268 clubs and 209 gas stations in 22 states.
