MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough charter school is being recognized for its success in helping students develop proficiency in multiple languages.
Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School at 201 Forest St. has been named a Star Awardee for the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy, an honor recognizing schools for their students' achievements in English and at least one additional language.
The State Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to graduating high school students who demonstrate high levels of proficiency in English and another language. The distinction recognizes students' language skills and the academic, cultural and professional benefits of multilingualism.
"We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition, which reflects both the hard work of our students and the dedication of our outstanding faculty," said Dr. Lisa C. Mobley, executive director of AMSA.
"At AMSA, we believe that academic excellence extends beyond achievement in mathematics and science. Developing proficiency in multiple languages strengthens critical thinking, deepens cultural understanding, and prepares our students to become thoughtful, engaged global citizens," Mobley added.
AMSA serves students in grades 6 through 12 and offers a college preparatory curriculum emphasizing mathematics, science, technology, humanities and world languages.
All students study Latin during their middle school years, building a foundation in language structure, vocabulary and analytical reasoning. Students can also pursue advanced language studies throughout high school.
The recognition comes as another Marlborough school has also received statewide recognition for biliteracy achievement. Marlborough Public Schools previously earned a Gold Star Award for its State Seal of Biliteracy program.
"Every student who earns the State Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to embrace academic challenges," Mobley said. "We celebrate their accomplishments and recognize the educators who have guided and inspired them along the way."
