A team of AMSA students won the Zero Robotics Final last month, which earned them a trip to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they watched their computer code run on the International Space Station.
After qualifying through the semi-final round, AMSA was teamed with students from Texas for the finals. They collaborated via telephone and the Internet, creating a code that ran more efficiently and accurately than their competitors.
In addition to an exciting day of competition, the finalists also heard presentations from NASA astronauts and Gavin Hood, the director of the science fiction film “Ender’s Game.” Hood spoke about special effects created with technology and engineering similar to that employed by students in the competition.

“It inspired me to do more in aerospace engineering,” said AMSA senior Ian Banatoski, who added that the experience also helped in the areas of teamwork and time management.
