AMSA's Honor Society Works to Benefit Sweats for Vets
The NHS spent december dedicating time to this community project.

The following was submitted by the Advanced Math and Science:
During the month of December, in the weeks leading up to winter break, members of AMSA’s NHS (National Honor Society) dedicated their weekly meetings to a fun community project benefiting homeless veterans.
Sweats4Vets is an organization that collects and donates winter-wear, including coats, blankets, hats, scarves, and gloves for homeless veterans in the Worcester area. NHS decided to contribute to their cause, but instead of simply donating used winter clothing, they turned it into a creative group project; NHS members paired up and bought sheets of fleece fabric at discounted prices. Then, for three weeks, members spent their time folding, cutting and tying, creating warm and colorful blankets and scarves.

In total, NHS members created 26 full size blankets and 3 scarves. When the blankets were finished, in the spirit of the season, students wrapped their creations in colorful wrapping paper. Then on, the morning of December 24th, students presented the blankets and scarves to the Worcester Veteran’s shelter, where homeless veterans received them. The blankets were given to veterans who are in transitional housing programs, in the process of going from the shelter to a temporary residence. Overall, NHS’s latest project was a wonderful opportunity for students to work together and bond, while giving back to the community in a meaningful and thoughtful way.
