MARLBOROUGH, MA — Construction on a new elementary school in Marlborough is moving along. The city released aerial photos last week showing the progress the building has made. The school is set to open in the fall of 2020 for the 2020-2021 school year.

The new elementary school will be the district's fourth and construction of the school began in July on the Poirier Road site. The $56.4 million price tag on the project was alleviated by the Massachusetts School Building Authority's $29 million reimbursement.

The new school will be 111,437 square feet and have over 30 classrooms for up to 610 students. The additional space will allow the district to shift the fifth graders back into the elementary schools.

Editors note: Original copy stated the new school would replace the Richer Elementary — this was corrected. The school is an additional elementary school and will not replace the Richer School.
