Marlboro Brush Fire Burns 40 Percent Of Man's Body

The man was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital with severe burns.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A brush fire on Tuesday afternoon left a 68-year-old man with severe burns on 40 percent of his body, according to Marlborough Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Gogan. The burns were contained to the lower half of the mans body, Gogan said. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital via helicopter for his injuries.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at 24 Lakeshore Drive and was started after the man had been burning unauthorized materials outside, Gogan said. The victim was alone in the incident and while fire officials do not believe he was in a wheelchair at the time of the burn, it is possible he used one.

The fire was put out in minutes and began in a barrel where the unauthorized materials were being burned and spread to the brush.
