CANDIDATE LETTER: 'Let Me Reflect Upon Where We Are As a City'
Edward "Skee" Bigelow's discusses his thoughts as a mayoral candidate for Marlborough.

Submitted by Edward Bigelow, candidate for mayor
You know as the election of a new Mayor is upon us, let me again reflect upon where we are as a city and what courses of action we must embrace. We know we have seen huge commercial growth. That very growth impacts greatly on the city.
There has been no recognition by the City government that shows any understanding of what huge growth without infrastructure investment and improvements will really mean to this City. All growth impacts public services and the ability to deliver the goods and manage the service. Public Safety, Public Schools and Public Works and City services are not even discussed in the Planning process.

As a matter of fact, the Mayor’s office and Councilors as a whole have had an adversarial relationship with the very infrastructure that actually runs this City. You know the little people. You cannot demean and diminish the job Your city employees do and expect blind allegiance. That is arrogant head in the sand government.

This next election is about vision. It takes courage to truly care about our community, but it takes action not just talk to bring a vision forward, to embrace plans that are inclusive, to enhance quality of life issues that will make for a stronger community. A strong vibrant community that embraces small business as well as the giant corporations. That understands the vitality of the Arts and Music for downtown’s viability.
That understands the need for support and space to allow Marlborough Public Schools to be their best.

A plan that understands that huge growth means significantly more calls to 911,more calls for Police more calls for Fire more calls for Ambulances more traffic more accidents. These are byproducts of growth they can’t be denied You can’t govern with your head in the sand. This election is about new management. Management that understands the changes to the community that are already here, and a mayor who understands: to manage change you must remain engaged, be proactive and know how to build consensus.
