City Urges Residents to Switch Over to National Grid

City officials have posted a notice to remind residents that National Grid's current rate is lower for electricity.

Marlborough’s officials are reminding residents that those who have not opted out of Colonial Power, the municipal aggregation for the city, are paying a higher rate than they should.

According to an announcement from the city, under the city’s municipal aggregation agreement, the residential electricity rate for Marlborough residents through Nov. 2015 is currently $0.12858/kWh; however, the residential rate from National Grid is currently $0.09257/kWh.

“As a result, Marlborough residents who have not opted out of municipal aggregation are now paying a higher electricity rate.”

In order to opt out of municipal aggregation to take advantage of National Grid’s current lower rate, contact Colonial Power at 508-485-5858.

“From Nov. 1, 2014 through April 30, 2015, Marlborough residents in municipal aggregation achieved significant savings because National Grid’s residential electricity rate was $0.16273/kWh, higher than the rate negotiated under municipal aggregation. With electricity rates expected to rise again this fall, Mayor Vigeant and the City Council are considering all options in order to provide Marlborough residents with the best possible electricity rates.”
