It’s a holiday weekend, and sitting at a desk taking notes is the last thing on students’ minds. But the start of the new school year will be here before you know it, and below are some important dates for the Marlborough Public Schools.

• Aug. 31, all staff orientation day
• Sept. 1, first day of school, all grades; kindergarten orientation
• Sept. 2, kindergarten first day of school
• Sept. 4, no school
• Sept. 7, no school
• Sept. 17, early release day
• Oct. 12, Columbus Day, no school
• Oct. 13, professional development day, no school
