Let’s just say that Howie Newman (www.howienewman.com) is not your typical singer-songwriter. Most of Newman’s material is humorous and/or satirical, and he has a real knack for getting the audience involved. Come to the Coffee Loft in Marlboro on Saturday, Feb. 18, and hear his take on cell phones, cosmic garbage collection, baseball and a whole lot more.
Newman also plays a handful of serious songs and covers.
The Coffee Loft is located at 406 Lincoln St. in Marlboro. There is no cover charge for the show, which begins at 7 p.m. For further information, call 508-251-1431 or visit www.coffee-loft.com.

Newman will be playing songs from his newly released live CD, You Shoulda Been There. The album includes “My Baby Can’t Parallel Park,” which has been aired on NPR’s Car Talk and WICN in Worcester.
A former MetroWest Daily sportswriter, he’ll also perform tunes from his latest baseball album, Baseball’s Greatest Hits, Volume 2, which has been accepted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame Archive in Cooperstown, N.Y.

In addition to airplay on WICN, Newman’s songs have been heard on 92.5 The River, WRKO, WEEI, the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento show, National Public Radio, WUMB-FM and many other stations across the country.
“People don’t have to work too hard to enjoy and understand the songs,” explains Newman. “I try to have fun and involve the audience when I perform. It’s a little different from what everyone else does, but we always have a good time.”
