MARLBOROUGH, MA — A fire Monday evening badly damaged a historic home in Marlborough along the Boston Post Road. The fire started in the home's kitchen, and was likely an accident, Marlborough Fire Assistant Chief Jeffrey Gogan said.

The fire was reported at around 5:30 p.m. in the home at 982 Boston Post Road. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames at the rear of the house, but were able to put the fire out from the inside of the home after about an hour.

Three people and a dog were home at the time, but all made it out safely without injury, Gogan said. No firefighters were injured.
