SOUTHBOROUGH, MA — A worker was rescued Wednesday morning after becoming trapped high in a tree during a job on Pinecone Lane in Southborough.

Southborough firefighters responded at about 10:20 a.m. June 10 after a 911 call reported the worker was trapped while doing tree work, according to Southborough Fire Chief Andrew Puntini. Crews found the worker about 100 feet above the ground, entrapped in the tree and suffering from serious injuries.

Firefighters requested a Marlborough Fire Department aerial tower, activated the District 14 Technical Rescue Team and requested Life Flight because they expected the rescue to take time, Puntini said.

A Southborough firefighter who is also a rescue technician assessed the situation and, with help from the tree crew and equipment already at the scene, helped lower the worker safely to the ground about 20 minutes after the initial 911 call.

The worker was taken by ambulance to the landing zone at 9/11 Field, then flown by Life Flight to the UMass Memorial Medical Center trauma center, according to Puntini.
