Friends of the Marlborough Library Announce Holiday Concert
'A Christmas Holiday Concert' will be presented by The Friends of the Marlborough Public Library's Music Chair Leslie Havens on Dec. 9.
From The Friends of the Marlborough Public Library: A Christmas Holiday Concert will be presented by The Friends of the Marlborough Public Library’s Music Chair Leslie Havens on Wednesday, December 9th at 7 PM featuring the Assabet Valley Chambersingers directed by Dr. Robert P. Eaton. This is the Third Concert of The Friends 2016-17 Yacyshn Concert Series in this their 47th Season.”
The Assabet Valley Chambersingers is a small ensemble of 18 vocalists selected from the Assabet Valley Mastersingers. The Chambersingers perform unaccompanied madrigals and motets from all periods as well as Broadway show tunes and vocal Jazz standards. They have been praised not only for the quality of their performances but also for the interesting, varied, and entertaining programing.
Organized in 1989 by Director Robert Eaton as a civic outreach program in the greater Worcester area, the Chambersingers provide entertainment for a variety of audiences. They are regular performers at venues such as Tower Hill Botanic Gardens, Notre Dame Du Lac, Friends of the Marlborough Library and First Night Worcester. They have performed at charity events in Shrewsbury, Northborough, Clinton, Marlborough, and Westborough as well as at Assisted Living Communities throughout the area. Dr. Robert P. Eaton is founder and director of the Assabet Valley Mastersingers, a 70 voice regional chorus dedicated to the performance of major choral masterworks, and also the sixteen voice Assabet Valley Chambersingers. Dr. Eaton has a long career in church music and is currently Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Lexington, MA. He has served as President for Eastern Division American Choral Directors Association as well as at the State and Division level in many capacities. Dr. Eaton was Choral Director at Algonquin Regional High School, Northborough, MA for many years. Dr. Eaton’s choruses won numerous awards at festivals and competitions, including gold medals for Jazz Choir, Camerata Choir, Chamber Choir, and Concert Choir. Dr. Eaton”s students have been selected for National and Regional Honors Choirs and were always well represented in District and All State Choruses.
The concert will take place in the Bigelow Auditorium, Marlborough Public Library, 35 West Main Street, Marlborough. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public and is fully handicapped accessible. For further info, please call 413-648-9663 or email: rajohnson736@gmail.com.

This Christmas Holiday Concert marks the 47th Season for the “Yacyshyn Concert Series” funded and sponsored in part by The Ezra Cutting Trust-Bank of America Trustee, the Marlborough Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency; the “Friends Memorial Fund;” the Brigham Family Trust and a grant from the Cummings Foundation in honor of Ginger Ryan. It is also another example of Friends Music Chair Leslie Havens’s efforts to bring music of a broad variety to The Friends forty-seven years of the Concert Series.
