G.E. Healthcare's Life Sciences Division Coming to Marlborough

Mass. Biomedical is relocating to Marlborough.

Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives, a private economic development organization based in Worcester that promotes the growth and expansion of the Biotechnology, Medical Device and Bioinformatics industry, is excited to welcome the G.E. Healthcare’s Life Science division to Marlborough. The G.E. Healthcare team recently announced their plans to relocate their U.S. headquarters from the current New Jersey facility to 200 Forest Street in Marlborough.

The new 500 employee facility, scheduled to open next spring, will renovate a 160,000 square-foot facility owned by Atlantic Management turning the space into laboratories, customer application facilities, and offices. This move promises to create 220 new jobs such as lab technicians, biologists, medical doctors, process engineers, and customer service representatives. This $21 million investment bolsters the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting the growing biotechnology industry and related businesses. Additionally, this relocation comes on the heels of legislation passed this session at the State House focused on promoting economic development across the Commonwealth.

“Bringing the G.E. Healthcare’s Life Science division to Marlborough will be a tremendous asset to expanding the biotechnology industry in the state and strengthening our local and regional economy,” said Mass Biomedical Initiatives President and CEO Kevin O’Sullivan. “I am greatly appreciative of the substantive work done by the Legislature to pass comprehensive legislation that supports and promotes this growing industry.”

“We are very excited to have the GE Life Science division relocate to Central Massachusetts,” said Representative Harold Naughton, D-Clinton. “This new facility will build a stable workforce through creating new jobs that will benefit residents of the surrounding communities, especially the neighboring Town of Northborough in my district. Building on legislation we passed this session to promote economic development, this move will also position Massachusetts as a leader in the biotechnology industry.”

“I am thrilled to welcome GE Healthcare’s Life Science division to Marlborough,” said Representative Gregoire (D-Marlborough). “Not only does their arrival promote the growing biotechnology industry, it creates well-paying, stable jobs in engineering, biology and customer service. I look forward to working with GE and their employees to ensure a long and successful relationship between the company, our city and the Commonwealth.”

Close proximity to Boston hospitals, the UMass Medical School in Worcester, and the burgeoning biomedical corridor anchored by Worcester and Cambridge, will perfectly position the G.E. Life Science team to adequately provide resources to clients and their patients.
