(BOSTON) – Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough) is pleased to share the Halloween COVID-19 safety tips provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH). These DPH guidelines were developed following the release of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Halloween specific guidelines. DPH’s guidance takes into account Massachusetts-specific gathering limits and sector-specific guidelines as well as standard hygiene practices that have been encouraged throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The DPH guidelines can be found here.

To allow our communities to celebrate Halloween safely, DPH urges residents to exclusively engage in all activities outdoors and avoid indoor gatherings and parties. If households participate in trick-or-treating, it is encouraged to keep all candy outside with hand sanitizer available for those taking candy. Those participating are also asked to carry a personal hand sanitizer to maintain good hygiene and wear a face mask or covering. It is worth noting that a costume mask is not a replacement for a face mask or covering. While celebrating, it is recommended to continue practicing 6-feet of social distancing with friends and neighbors. In lieu of typical Halloween celebrations, public health officials are suggesting families partake in activities such as decorating your yard, holding virtual events and activities, and having a Halloween-themed celebration with your immediate household members. Those who test positive for COVID-19, feel unwell, or have traveled from a high-risk state within the past two weeks are asked to stay home and not partake in any activities. Finally, residents of Marlborough, Northborough and Westborough are asked to continue to consult their municipal websites for any community-specific guidelines.

Gregoire (D-Marlborough), House Chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. “I am excited that our state’s public health professionals and leaders have put forth these guidelines, allowing our friends and neighbors to celebrate Halloween in a safe and responsible manner.”
