MARLBOROUGH, MA — Incumbent state Rep. Danielle Gregoire is the likely winner in Tuesday's 4th Middlesex Democratic primary — but she only carried one of three communities in the district.

Gregoire was ahead with 4,179 votes over challenger Jeanne Cahill, who earned 3,270 votes. Gregoire's 1,000-vote lead largely came from Marlborough. Cahill carried Northborough and Westborough, according to the unofficial results.

Gregoire, 41, has represented the 4th Middlesex District — which encompasses three of the "Boros" — since 2008, except for 2010 to 2012 when Republican Steven Levy won the seat. Cahill ran on a platform of bringing more transparency to voters about what happens behind closed doors on Beacon Hill.
