“It’s amazing to receive this generous gift—especially because it comes from our very own heart transplant recipients,” said David DeNofrio, MD, Director of the Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Center at Tufts Medical Center. “Pat and Bob continue to stay focused and committed to helping patients living with advanced heart failure. The HeartBrothers’ much-needed gift will help us support patients and their families through this challenging process. Many patients need assistance with travel and other expenses before and after their transplant and LVAD procedures.”
The HBF, now 2 ½ years in operation, is co-founded by two heart transplant survivors—Pat Sullivan and Bob Romer—who both underwent heart transplant surgery at Tufts Medical Center under the leadership of DeNofrio. The funds given to Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Patient Support Fund will be used to help ease the lives of transplant patients at Tufts MC and improve their overall post-transplant experience and health.

“We’re overwhelmed at the outpouring of support at this year’s Gustin Golf Classic and are beyond honored to now give back to the CardioVascular Center care team at Tufts Medical Center—the men and women who saved our lives,” said Sullivan. “Partnering with the Gustin family is always our pleasure. Their commitment, planning, and implementation are spot-on—and only thanks to their generosity are we able to make this donation to Tufts MC.”
