Lawrence Man Dies In Marlborough I-290 Crash

The 53-year-old drove into the back of an SUV on Friday afternoon, according to state police.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Lawrence man died Friday afternoon in a collision along I-290 in Marlborough, according to state police.

Just before 5 p.m., the 53-year-old drove his compact car into the back of a large SUV near the I-495 interchange, according to state police. The man did not slow down as he was approaching stopped traffic in the left lane, police said.

Marlborough firefighters had to extract the man from his Toyota Yaris before he was flown by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, where he died.

The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old from Willington, Conn., and his passengers were not injured, police said.

The exact cause of the crash was still under investigation as of Saturday morning.
