With the launch of Artemis Veterinary, Marlborough veterinarian, Dr. Karen Patti, offers pet owners an on-call service for conducting pet euthanasia in the home. Artemis Veterinary allows pet owners to not only say goodbye to their pet in the home, where the pet will be more comfortable and surrounded by family, but also meet the needs of both the family and pet in a timely manner.

“In-home pet euthanasia is a service that is very much needed, especially during the pandemic when pet owners have been unable to join their pets inside veterinary clinics,” said Dr. Patti. “I know first-hand how difficult the decision is to euthanize and how much it impacts the family. My primary goal with euthanasia is to make an extremely difficult and emotional situation go as smoothly as possible. Of all the moments in a pet’s life, we will always remember their passing. That is why we try to make it a more beautiful and less painful situation as much as we can.”

Pet owners typically seek pet euthanasia when their need is urgent, which may be the weekend or after hours. Also, they may be unable to find a veterinarian who specializes in pet euthanasia and will travel to their area to perform it in the home.

“With Dr. Patti, pet owners have a veterinarian who will perform pet euthanasia with extreme compassion for their pet and their situation and an understanding of their needs,” said Marlborough resident, Julie McMannus. “She goes above and beyond for her clients and pet patients to meet their needs for medical attention as well as for euthanasia.”

By doing pet euthanasia in the home, Dr. Patti also helps to preserve the pet owner/vet clinic relationship as the clinic is not associated with the emotional situation behind the pet’s passing, which often prevents the pet owners from returning to the clinic with other animals.

Dr. Patti serves pet owners and their families located in the MetroWest Boston area in Massachusetts. She will only perform euthanasia with animals who are terminally ill or elderly, in pain and dying.
