MARLBOROUGH, MA—A Peabody man is facing a multitude of charges after a chase that started in the parking lot near an Outback Steakhouse in Auburn and ended with a crash on I-495 near Route 20 in Marlborough.
Around 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Sgt. Dan Lamoreaux and Officer Christopher Raymond from Auburn police were conducting regular checks of area business parking lots when they spotted a pair of men in a lot near the Outback Steakhouse. Not long after, the officers approached one of them, later identified as Marqus B. Mitchell, 33, Peabody, who got out of his car but wouldn't take his hands out of his pockets. Officers suspected he may be on drugs and possibly armed.
Officers found a small amount of cocaine on Mitchell. Sgt. Lamoureaux found a loaded magazine inside the car, and tried to take Mitchell into custody. He resisted violently, with officers using a taser twice in an effort to subdue him. Mitchell fought his way back into the car and took off toward the Mass. Pike with Auburn officers and State Police in pursuit.
