MARLBOROUGH, MA — A 23-year-old Hudson man was arraigned Monday in Marlborough for the murder of Karla Rodriguez, 20, of Framingham. Luis Santos, 23, shot Rodriguez — the mother of a 10-month-old — as she sat in a car outside Santos' apartment in Hudson on Dec. 12, according to prosecutors.

Santos pleaded not guilty before Judge Timothy Bibaud on Monday morning to charges of murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a gun without a license. He was ordered held without bail during the arraignment.

Also on Monday, prosecutors detailed what Santos did in the hours after Rodriguez was shot. He called family members and asked for help, and even asked for help to get a flight to Puerto Rico, according to reports. Santos also told a friend, "I killed Karla," according to prosecutors.

Rodriguez was sitting in her car along Howe Street last Thursday afternoon when she was shot. She died near 1 a.m. Friday at UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Santos turned himself in Friday night after police publicized his photo.

Rodriguez was killed just one week after a community meeting in Framingham on domestic violence. That meeting was held, in part, as a tribute to Jamee Maddrey-Ammons, 27, who was murdered by her estranged boyfriend in Framingham in mid-October, according to prosecutors. In Worcester in early October, Thomas Bergstrom, 36, was charged with murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend, Jeniffer Gisselle Rivera Vazquez, 34.
