Abby Larson wins National Pitch, Hit, Run competition

Marlboro Girls Softball was recently host to the first round of the Scott’s Pitch Hit and Run contest. There were over 30 girls that competed in the softball division.

The winners from Marlboro moved onto the next round in Sudbury, MA. Abby Larson, Hunter Woodworth, Jackie McKinnon, Catherine Seay, Piper Kinney, Daucen Chamberlain and Maddy Glynn represented Marlboro.
Abby Larson competed in the 13-14 year old category. Only the overall winner at each age level would get a chance to move onto the next round. Abby was the winner and advanced to the next round held at Fenway Park. Abby received a letter informing her that she was one of 6 finalists in her age group to advance.

On June 4th Abby and her parents Maureen and Darryl and other family members got up bright and early and drove from Mt Washington where Abby was playing in a U18 tournament with her sister Liv and made the 2 ½ hour drive to Fenway Park. Once there Abby got her PHR visor and shirt and met the other kids competing. There were kids from Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Abby hit 6 of the 6 pitching targets, hit the ball off the tee 167 ft and ran 160 yards faster then anyone in her age group to win and represent the Boston Red Sox.
She then had to wait until June 27th the night before her 14th birthday when Major League Baseball would announce the 3 finalist with the highest scores out of the 30 Major League Baseball teams. With her family, friends, and fellow softball players watching at 6:35pm on the MLB network her name was listed in the top 3. More then 625,000 boys and girls competed in over 4000 competitions across North America.
With that announcement Abby and her Dad were off to the All Star Game in San Diego representing the Boston Red Sox. Abby competed on Monday July 11th against 2 other girls in her age category and came out on top to be crowned the 2016 Scott’s Pitch, Hit and Run Champion!! While out there she also got to shag fly balls during the Home Run Derby and attended Fan Fest and the All Star game.

All of us in Marlboro Girls Softball are very proud of her accomplishments
