Marlborough and Newton Schools Face Off in 'High School Quiz Show' Finals

High School Quiz Show, WGBH’s award-winning academic tournament, heads into the season six championship match this week, when students from Marlborough’s Advanced Math and Science Academy match wits against students from Newton North High School.

The schools defeated 14 other qualifying teams from Massachusetts to get to the finals, said the announcement.

Mark it on your calendar, or set your DVR: the episode airs Saturday, May 16, at 6 p.m. on WGBH 2 and again on Sunday, May 17, at 5 p.m. on WGBH 2.

“We are proud to see the continued growth in interest and enthusiasm High School Quiz Show generated by schools and communities across the state,” said executive producer Hillary Wells in an announcement. “We are especially pleased to hear that the preparation and experience teams are gaining through their participation on the show has resulted in a marked impact on the number of Massachusetts teams now participating in national academic competitions.”

Both academic teams are veterans of High School Quiz Show. Advanced Math and Science Academy made it to the quarterfinals on season five, and for the first time advanced to the semifinals this season. Newton North High School advanced to the semifinals on season five, their first year competing, said the release.
