Marlborough Athlete Named Captain Of RPI Men's Cross Country Team

Austin Turner has run in 16 career meets, including five as a sophomore and five as a junior.

From RPI: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Austin Turner of Marlborough 01752 has been named a captain of the men's cross country team.

Turner (Marlborough HS) has run in 16 career meets, including five as a sophomore and five as a junior. Last season when he was also a captain, he had a season-best 8K time of 26:36.8 at the Saratoga Invitational, where he finished 38th to help the Engineers to victory. The chemical engineering major bested his previous career-best 8K time of 26:40.4, which came in his freshman year with a 24th place finish at Rowan University.

RPI, which features four seniors, 10 juniors, seven sophomores and 11 freshmen among its 32 student-athletes, is coming off a season in which it finished 14th in the nation.

The 2017 Engineers earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship Meet based on its second place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regional. It was the eighth top 7 finish for RPI, which won five meets and finished second in two others.
