MARLBOROUGH, MA — Employees at a Marlborough-based bank traded their desks for power tools this week during an annual volunteer project benefiting children across Massachusetts.

Dozens of employees at St. Mary's Credit Union gathered outside the bank's headquarters at 46 Lizotte Dr. on Wednesday to build 10 beds in partnership with A Bed for Every Child. The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless initiative provides new beds to children from low-income households.

A photo from the event shows employees assembling wooden bed components with a power drill. The beds will be distributed to children in need across the region, according to the credit union.

Launched in 2012, A Bed for Every Child works with schools, health care providers, community organizations and state agencies to identify children who need beds. The program delivers more than 1,500 beds to children’s homes each year, according to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

The bed-building event is part of St. Mary’s Credit Union’s year-round community service work in MetroWest and surrounding communities, the credit union said.
