Marlborough To Break Ground On New Main Library

MARLBOROUGH, MA — After a year-long delay, Marlborough officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony this week for an overhaul of the main library.

The $24 million renovation was supposed to begin last summer, but was delayed due to the pandemic. Officials expect the project to take about 18 months, with a completion date sometime in spring 2023.

When complete, a 1960s-era addition will be torn down and replaced, adding about 16,000 square-feet of space to the library. You can view the plans for the new Marlborough library here.

The library will still be available during the renovation, just not at the Main Street site. Last spring, all materials were moved to the Walker Building, 255 Main St., in the spring. The temporary home is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except weekends.

The groundbreaking ceremony will kick off Tuesday at 3 p.m. in front of the main library building at 35 West Main St.
