Marlborough Fire Calls Rise Again In July

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough firefighters continued to see rising emergency call volume in July.

The Marlborough Fire Department responded to 812 emergency incidents during the month, up from 805 in July 2025, according to the department. Firefighters reported handling 5,564 incidents through July, about 6 percent more than during the same period last year.

The July total represents an average of about 26 incidents per day.

The increase follows 822 emergency incidents in June, up from 780 during the same month in 2025. The department had reported 4,748 incidents through June.

The higher call volume comes as Marlborough firefighters continue to raise concerns about staffing. Marlborough Firefighters Local 1714 said crews were left without any available fire companies for part of a June afternoon after firefighters responded to a brush fire along Interstate 495 and an elevator entrapment minutes apart.

Local 1714 President Matthew Armor previously told city councilors that the department responded to about 9,225 calls in 2025, nearly 50 percent more than in 2014, while operating with staffing levels that have not kept pace with the increase.

The union has called for additional staffing and long-term planning for a future Westside fire station.
