Marlborough Girls Volleyball Remain Undefeated, Sweep Algonquin 3-0
The Panthers defeated the Tomahawks 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-16) to improve to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in Mid-Wach A.
The remained undefeated on the season, sweeping the Algonquin Tomahawks 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-16) in a Mid-Wach A contest at the Marlborough High School Fieldhouse. Marlborough improved to 15-0 overall and 11-0 in Mid-Wach A. Algonquin fell to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in Mid-Wach A.
Seniors Laura Silverman, Melissa Scott and Vanessa Pascal led the way for the Panthers, combining for a large majority of the team's kills and aces.
Marlborough got off to a quick start, scoring the first five points of the first game, with Pascal serving up two aces. “The short serve usually works, and then they move in and I switch to the long one,” said Pascal when asked about her success on serves. The Panthers never looked back, taking the first game 25-8.

The Tomahawks made a few runs of their own over the next two games, but were unable to match the Panthers skill and communication. Marlborough continued to execute winning the next two games by the scores of 25-15 and 25-16.
“They are the only team to take a game from us all season. The first time we played them they took the first game and we won the next three,” said Marlborough Head Coach Peter Lepore. “We weren’t going to let that happen again. The girls don’t overlook these games, they know to stay focused.”

“The difference from this team and our team last year is that we would have gone into this game thinking we would easily win,” said Silverman. “I think that was a really big thing going into this game that we wanted to show them that we are good and weren’t going to hand this game to them.”
With the Mid-Wach A title already clinched and only three opponents left on the schedule, this years Panthers team looks confident and poised to finish the season undefeated and carry that momentum into the playoffs.
Marlborough next travels to North Middlesex on Friday, Oct. 28 to take on the Patriots at 5 p.m.
