Mayor Christian and city officials are very aware of the ongoing rodent issues many residents have been facing across the city. In an effort to help mitigate the situation, Mayor Christian and the Marlborough Health Department have implemented a new Rodent Information and Reporting page on the city website specifically dealing with rodent issues. This resources page covers educational materials and FAQs surrounding rodents, prevention tips, and includes a new rodent sighting reporting tool.

The new reporting tool allows residents and business owners to share details of rodent sightings and share any additional information that may be causing them. Common causes of rodents are proximity to new construction or fires, overflowing/unkept trash, overgrown vegetation, unsanitary conditions of a home/business, and other factors. The information you report gets sent to the Health Department, Inspectional Services, and the Mayor’s Office in an effort to streamline information and identify hot-spot areas and causes.

Once problem areas are identified, the Health Department will provide educational material to homes and businesses within those areas. They will also work closely with Inspectional Services to help identify problem properties and bring them up to code. The Mayor’s Office will continue to monitor these efforts and work on additional solutions to mitigate the issue.

While the city has begun to take steps to curb this issue and provide education, it is going to take the community coming together to solve it. Collectively, we can help mitigate rodent issues by keeping homes sanitary, reporting problem properties, reporting rodent sightings, rodent proofing homes and accessory structures, hiring reliable pest control companies and providing education to our neighbors.
