Marlborough High School Parents Get Tips To Prep Kids For College
Parents of the high school's underclassmen learned its never too early to start prepping for college, with the help of MassHire.

MARLBOROUGH, MA- Marlborough High School parents of freshmen and sophomores recently learned more about college and career readiness with the help of MassHire Metro South/West’s workforce expertise and data.
For the Jan. 16 Parent Night, MassHire MSW partnered with the school’s guidance staff to help parents of underclassmen better understand the high school course selection and college/career planning process so that students can make the most of their high school experience.
In addition to learning about the tools and supports provided by the high school and about the college financial process from Citizens Bank, parents learned from MassHire MSW Executive Director Greg Bunn about the area’s labor market. Included in his presentation was information on area industries and employers, trends and projections, occupations, and salaries.

Bunn said a big part of preparing for college and career is to understand about employment trends and the types of jobs that are available in the area for students to work toward.
“If you take one thing away, it’s to start using these resources now with your children to explore occupations and labor market trends to help you all make informed choices,”Bunn said.

Bunn explained that MassHire MSW is committed to providing relevant resources to help families navigate the education-to-employment process. Families can benefit greatly by understanding their children’s strengths and interests, then combining that with labor market information.
Marlborough schools’ Supervisor of Counseling Services Sharon Buckley noted the importance of the partnerships with organizations such as Mass Hire MSW to connect the dots among the high school, college and workforce sectors to help parents to plan and students to be successful.
