The trio will perform with 500 of the most talented student musicians from across the state.

“They represent excellence in achievement and therefore are known as Symphony Hall Scholars,” said the press release. “Students achieve the status of Symphony Hall Scholar by going through two very rigorous auditions, one at the district level, where more than 4,000 students are represented; and then if recommended, they move to the All-State audition, where more than 1,000 students compete for the honor of performing at Symphony Hall.”

All-State rehearsals will take place at the Seaport Hotel in Boston March 19 and 20.

The MHS Jazz Ensemble also grabbed the gold medal at the Central District Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators (MAJE) Festival, which enables the ensemble to continue competition at the state level. The MAJE State competition will be March 22 at Framingham High School.

Congratulations also to alto saxophonist Sarah Hanahan, trumpeter Connor Bailey, and electric and string bassist Shawheen Fagan for receiving “Outstanding Musicianship” awards at the Central District Festival.
