Marlborough Hospital Celebrates PI Day With Reminder To Caregivers, And Pies

Marlborough Hospital used Pi Day as a way to remind healthcare professionals to "check twice."

MARLBOROUGH, MA — In honor of PI Day on Tuesday, lots of people celebrated with pie. That included Marlborough Hospital, which snacked on a a table of Table Talk that day. But they also used PI Day as a reminder about healthcare.

Each caregiver received a patient wristband with the message “Always check for 2 Patient Identifiers.” The hospital is celebrating Patient Safety Awareness Week and thought PI Day would be a good way to remind staff the importance of checking two identifiers any time they interact with a patient, said the announcement.

“One of the Joint Commission’s top national patient safety goals is to identify patients correctly, said Steve Roach, president and CEO, in a statement. "Our caregivers are trained to ask the patient for his/her name and date of birth to validate that we are giving the correct medicine and treatment to the correct patient. We decided to have PI Day signify Patient Identifier Day at Marlborough Hospital.”
