Marlborough Man Dies Of Illness, But Not Confirmed Coronavirus

In reporting a rise of coronavirus cases Wednesday, Marlborough officials also announced a man's sudden death.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant reported Wednesday that a city man died yesterday of an influenza-like illness, but the death has not been confirmed as related to coronavirus.

Vigeant also said that Marlborough's coronavirus case count rose to 50 on Wednesday — that's a sharp rise over Tuesday, when officials reported 35 cases in the city. One person from Marlborough has recovered from COVID-19.

The medical examiner ruled that the 58-year-old died of natural causes, and did note that the death occurred amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," Vigeant said in a news release. "Although no connection to COVID-19 has yet to be confirmed, this should be used as a somber reminder of the seriousness of the outbreak in our community. It is extremely important that we take every precaution necessary to limit the spread of this virus and to protect ourselves and those around us from illness."

Statewide, 33 more deaths were reported on Wednesday. Framingham reported back-to-back deaths on Tuesday and Wednesday.
