Marlborough Native Served in Peace Corps, Worked as Child Abuse Investigator

Charles Callahan, who was born in Marlborough, passed away at age 74.

Charles V. Callahan, 74, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. Private family services will be held. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Genesius Guild.

Charles Vincent Callahan, Jr., was born January 19, 1940, in Marlboro, MA., to Charles V. Sr. and Dorothy (Frances) Callahan. He married Amalie C. Smith on April 2, 1966, in Venice, California.

He served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia from 1962 to 1964, and then worked as a child abuse investigator for the Iowa Department of Social Services for 34 years, retiring in 2001. He loved history and movies, and was an avid supporter of local theater.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Amalie; two children and their spouses, Miranda Callahan and Sam Kamin of New York City, and Michael and Amie Callahan of Moline; four grandchildren, Sarah, Bryn, Matthew, and Bailey Callahan; a brother, Michael Callahan of Marlboro; and a nephew, Tom Callahan of Florida.
