Marlborough Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues

We asked Patch readers to share their biggest safety concerns in Marlborough. Here's what they'd change.

Marlborough, MA - Summer’s nearly here, and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.

Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.

Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Marlborough residents year round.

We asked Patch readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "The traffic light at the intersection of Ames and Route 20."
  • "Trees on Sudbury Street about to fall over that are barely rooted into the side woods, fall on someone's car!"
  • "The cross walk signal at Curtis Avenue and Rt. 20 You have literally 10 seconds to run with kids in tow [across] the street. Half the time the light turns green when you're in the middle of the road!!"
  • "Intersection of Bigelow and Donald Lynch Blvd.. hazardous!"
  • "The drivers traveling on East Main Street turning right onto Main Street, either running the light or thinking that light is a right turn on red. ..."
  • "Fitchburg Street and Pleasant."
  • "Traffic danger is left turn from Acre Bridge Road onto Route 85..."
  • "People not stopping when crossing in the cross walk. People going the wrong way on Florence St and Court St. "
  • "People flying on "cut through" streets like Berlin Road. Also lack of sidewalks on these streets."
  • "Turning into Route 20 east in the afternoon. Turning out of Phelps St almost impossible. Car crashes all the time in that area!!"
