Marlborough retirement community earns national recognition

New Horizons at Marlborough receives "Best of Assisted Living" honor.

MARLBOROUGH, December 19, 2014 —New Horizons at Marlborough was awarded the “Best of Assisted Living in Marlborough” 2015 award for receiving consistently high ratings in the past year on SeniorAdvisor.com, a national ratings and reviews site for senior care and services.

Winners of this honor rank in the top 1 percent of senior care providers nationwide. New Horizons also received this recognition in 2013.

“SeniorAdvisor.com aims to help families research and locate reliable first-hand feedback on senior care options from other families who have gone through the same experience,” said Eric Seifert, president of SeniorAdvisor.com. “We are proud to celebrate the exceptional businesses that care for our greatest generation, … and provide these organizations with the recognition they deserve.”

Selection criteria for the award winners included having received an average overall rating of at least 4.5 out of 5 stars and having a minimum number of reviews.

Owned by Cummings Foundation, one of the largest foundations in New England, New Horizons is home to more than 400 seniors. The 20-year-old community is located on Hemenway Street in east Marlborough. Its scenic 40-acre campus was formerly the site of Madonna Hall School for Girls.

“We are delighted that our families think so highly of the community and its services and that they take the time to comment,” said Robert O’Connor, executive director of New Horizons. “We strive each day to provide uncompromising value and unparalleled service. The award from SeniorAdvisor.com shows that we are succeeding.”

According to O’Connor, New Horizons features several amenities that are very unusual for assisted and independent living communities, including a large indoor swimming pool, fitness center, hair salon, apothecary, and general store. In addition, the non-sectarian community offers regular religious services for Protestant and Jewish faiths, as well as daily Catholic Mass.

Earlier this year, New Horizons announced a “rate freeze” for new and current residents, guaranteeing no increase for at least five years to the basic monthly fee. This fee includes all charges for lodging, meals, water, heat, air conditioning, cable TV, local telephone service, parking, and regular maintenance.

In summer 2015, New Horizons anticipates opening “India House,” a new wing currently under construction that will cater to the Indian community. Reportedly, the only culturally specific senior residence of its kind in New England, India House is being created in partnership with Indian Circle for Caring USA Inc.
