Marlborough Secures Lower Electricity Supply Rate Through January

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough electricity customers enrolled in the city’s aggregation program will pay a lower supply rate than National Grid’s basic service rate beginning in August.

Marlborough secured a rate of 14.919 cents per kilowatt-hour through its broker, Colonial Power Group, for August 2026 through January 2027, the city announced on Thursday. National Grid’s basic service rate during the same period will be 17.185 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Both options meet Massachusetts renewable energy requirements, the city says.

Marlborough's rate is about 2.27 cents per kilowatt-hour, or 13.2 percent, lower than National Grid’s rate. A customer using 500 kilowatt-hours in a month would pay about $11.33 less for the supply portion of the bill under the city rate. Actual bills will vary based on electricity use and other charges.

Marlborough periodically solicits electricity supply bids through Colonial Power. By combining participating customers into a larger purchasing group, the city seeks rates that individual customers may not be able to obtain on their own.

The supply charge represents only a portion of a customer’s total electricity bill.
