Marlborough Welcomes Summer Lacrosse League
The Boston-based CroART Lacrosse League has expanded a division to Marlborough, creating new sports opportunity for residents.
Calling all lacrosse sports fans: The widely successful CroART Lacrosse League has found its way to Marlborough. The Monday night games at Forekicks on June 6 will kick off the Marlborough summer lacrosse season.
This year marks the league’s 10th anniversary. What first began as Tyrone Croom rounding up a group of buddies to start a small league in Boston has since grown to 50 teams competing within eight divisions.
“At the time, there wasn’t a lacrosse league where we wouldn’t have to leave work early to play or travel a great distance to reach, so we created our own,” said Croom, a Sudbury native. He played lacrosse at Lincoln High School and at prep school, but move on to playing football in college.

However, it was the efforts of Marlborough resident Alex Pitocchelli that first caught Croom’s attention. “The Backyard division started last year when I put it together. I’m a local kid from Marlborough who graduated from the high school in 2009 and was captain of the lacrosse team. Tyrone Croom saw potential in me and the league, and took me and my league under his umbrella,” said Pitocchelli.
There will be eight teams competing this summer in Marlborough within the Backyard Division of CroART. At the end of the seven-week season, the top two teams will then compete in the playoffs against 14 other teams from other CroART divisions.

The goal is to have 20 members on every team. Each team member must pay a $130 fee if signing up before May 30, or a $150 fee afterwards. Spaces are still available on Marlborough teams, according to Croom.
He emphasizes that CroART is a competitive league, however, and participants should have at least some previous experience with the sport. At this time, a women’s league is not available due to lack of interest and participation, noted Croom.
