Marlborough Traffic Stop Ends With Drug Charges

Police said the man rolled through two stop signs, prompting the traffic stop, but found drugs in the car.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough man is facing drug possession charges after a police officer pulled him over for what was supposed to be a traffic stop. Byron Ordonez-Govea, 58, is facing drug possession and distribution charges as well as a traffic charge.

On Tuesday night, Ordonez-Govea was stopped by a Marlborough police officer in plain clothes after the officer saw him roll through two stop signs, police said. The officer was near Howland Street when he noticed the car drive past. Ordonez-Govea was stopped between Mechanic Street and Manning Street.

When the officer got to the car, the glove compartment was open and he noticed cash sitting out and a baggie filled with a white substance that was tied at the top, police said. The substance later tested positive for cocaine. Ordonez-Govea was alone in the car and was arrested. As the officer searched his car he also found a box of sandwich bags, which police say are common for selling drugs, and a cell phone.
