An anniversary celebration is being planned.

The celebration will also honor Vanzini for nearly a half century of tireless commitment to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Marlborough.

At a brief press conference held in Marlborough, former State Representative Steve LeDuc announced the 25th anniversary celebration planned for the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation.

“There will be a series of events commemorating 25 years of helping Marlborough citizens achieve their college dreams, and at the same time, giving recognition to a very special person, Marylou Vanzini. For almost half a century, Marylou has devoted her time to improving the quality of life for many in the city, from co-founding the Girls’ Club of Marlborough, to her role on the School Committee, to initiating the All-Nighter for a safer prom night, and then for bringing Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation to Marlborough. Her footprint will exist for a long time to come,” remarked LeDuc.

Vanzini reminisced about the inception of CSF, and issued a challenge to former donors, recipients, and to city residents at large. “We need to raise money, lots of money, to “Pay it Forward”, to be able to help others to be able to continue their education. This may not be as exciting or profitable as the Ice Bucket Challenge, but with pride and determination we can make sure that the legacy of providing assistance to Marlborough residents continues into the future,” commented Vanzini. “This isn’t about me, it’s about all those who jumped in along the way and worked so hard to make Marlborough a better place to live.”

Mary Jo Nawrocki, the former and interim Assabet Valley Regional Technical High superintendent/director, and former Marlborough School Committee member and City Councilor, credited Vanzini for pulling her into CSF. “We had some great events over the last 25 years! How can anyone forget our Cow Chop Bingo, or Spelling Bees, golf tournaments, or motorcycle race? We hope everyone will join us in honoring Marylou and in celebrating the CSF anniversary by contributing once again. “

LeDuc went on to add that there will be a gala benefit in the spring, with a ‘soft date’ right now of March 26th. “In the same spirit as the Marlborough Labor Day parade theme this year, ‘Marlborough, an Active Community,’ it is only fitting that we continue to elevate the profiles of those who have done so much for our fine city, like Marylou Vanzini. Watch for our booth at the Heritage Fair this year, and be prepared to come out to join us in the spring as we honor Marylou and ‘Pay it Forward’ to a whole new generation.”
