Matt Elder's Statement on the Roche Resignation

Today, Matt Elder released the following statement on Olga Roche's resignation:

“I am deeply saddened that two more children had to die under the Department of Children and Family for the Governor to finally take action. While I am happy he finally accepted her resignation, I will never be satisfied as more children perished while we all waited.

Over two months ago, I publicly called for action by our leaders on Beacon Hill, and it fell on deaf ears. Only a small minority of the members of the Legislature called for her resignation, and it took more deaths for more members to join.

I am saddened at the continued inaction by Danielle Gregoire, who sat on the sidelines and said nor did nothing as this important department continued to operate under the same leadership. We need strong leaders representing us, not those who blindly follow the Speaker of the House.

I look forward to working with a new administration next year to make sure we have no more tragedies in the DCF.
