Meet Marlborough's 8 New Firefighters

The new firefighters began working in Marlborough on Monday, and bring experience from the armed forces and local fire departments.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — The eight newest Marlborough firefighters had their first day at work on Monday. The new hires bring a range of experience to the city, including many who served in the armed forces, and some who transferred from nearby departments including Wayland and Sudbury.

Here are the eight new firefighters, according to Mayor Arthur Vigeant's office:

James Cacciapaglia recently moved to the MetroWest area. He is a U.S. Army combat veteran and served as an Army Ranger and civilian assigned to the Department of Defense. Additionally, Cacciapaglia holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Jacob Thompson is a career firefighter and EMT who previously worked for the Gardner and Warren Fire Departments. He was the recipient of the Richard N. Bangs Award in his firefighter recruit training program at the Massachusetts Fire Academy, and was named EMT of the Year at Gardner Fire Department in 2021. Mr. Thompson holds a bachelor of science degree from Worcester State University and is currently pursuing a second degree in fire science from Anna Maria College.

Tucker Holt has eight years of firefighting experience and served as a full-time firefighter for the Stanford Fire Department in Maine. He earned an associate's degree in fire science and holds numerous professional certifications including firefighter II, fire officer, fire instructor and advanced emergency medical technician.

Roland Saucier is a certified career firefighter paramedic with prior experience working in the Sudbury Fire Department and private EMS companies. Saucier is also a former four-year U.S.
Marine Corps member. He is working to complete a bachelor of science degree in emergency management at Franklin Pierce University.

Andrew Anderson has seven years of firefighting experience, including serving as a full time lieutenant with the Shirley Fire Department. He holds many professional certifications as a firefighter II, fire instructor, fire officer and emergency medical technician.

Josiah David is a Marlborough resident who has more than six years of experience as a firefighter paramedic working for the Wayland Fire Department. He has also served as a call firefighter for both the Ashby and Ashburnham Fire Departments. He holds professional certifications as a firefighter II and attended Quinsigamond Community College, where he earned certification as a nationally registered EMT paramedic.

Jesus Murillo is a Marlborough High School graduate who enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2012 and is currently serving as a platoon sergeant in the USMC Reserves. He has no previous experience as firefighter, but a history of work in maintenance, training, hazardous materials handling and is fluent in Spanish.

Gus Franchi graduated from Athol High School in the top 10 percent of his class and served as
class president. He went on to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of sergeant before leaving in 2018. He has successfully obtained certification as an EMT.
