Monday Manual: Thanksgiving, Rink Opening, Small Biz Celebration

See seven important things happening this week, including the results of a Route 20 survey, leaf pickup and a state rep's office hours.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Welcome to the Nov. 22 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're starting in Marlborough, which is home to one of the 43 Carnegie library buildings in Massachusetts. Scottish steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie donated money to build about 1,700 of the libraries across the U.S. between 1883 and 1929 as an act of philanthropy. Marlborough's Carnegie library at 35 West Main St. is in the midst of a major renovation.

1) Marlborough

Before you check out for Thanksgiving, make sure you do your chores. The city's annual leaf collection period begins Monday and runs through Dec. 3.

2) Framingham

Framingham has one of just a handful of state-sponsored coronavirus testing sites in the region. The walk-up site at St. Tarcisius will close early on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., and will be closed Thursday and Friday due to Thanksgiving. Find private testing options here.

3) Sudbury

Want to talk to state Rep. Carmine Gentile? He's holding office hours for constituents in Sudbury, Marlborough, Wayland and Framingham on Monday. Find details here.

4) Worcester

The Worcester Common oval ice skating rink will open for the season on Friday. This is the first time the rink has been open since the 2019 season. The rink will be open all winter on weekday evenings and daytime hours on weekends.

5) Milford

Nov. 28 is the third annual Small Brewery Sunday sponsored by the Brewers Association — a good day to hop over to Craft Roots Brewing, the town's only craft brewery.

6) Wayland

Back in August, Wayland asked residents for input about possible upgrades for Route 20 during an upcoming resurfacing project. The Board of Selectmen on Monday will discuss the results.

7) Natick

Natick typically goes all-out for Small Business Saturday, and 2021 is no exception. Natick's small shops will be offering treats to shoppers, and there will be live music. Find out more from the Natick Center Cultural District.
