AMSA held the school’s first Student/Parent Science Challenge on Jan. 14. Participants were split into small teams of both students and parents.
The challenge consisted of three science-related events: “Lists,” “Instant Engineering,” and “Team Trivia.” These tested both the retention of basic facts and the team’s abilities to construct different models.
Members of AMSA’s science departments served as judges.

Zephyr added that the team’s extended background in science aided their performance. Zephyr, for example, took AP Chemistry and worked as a teacher’s aide in the chemistry lab last year. He continues to work as a teacher’s aide and is also enrolled in AP Physics, while he takes chemistry as an independent study.
The school hopes to makes this event a tradition after a successful opening night.
