Pedal For Paws Raises Money for Pet Medical Bills

The Northborough-based Pet Chance is planning for its biggest fundraiser to date, to take place in Marlborough.

The call from the vet hospital comes in. Your dog has cancer. Or your cat has broken bone from an accident. You’ve either got no pet insurance, or the insurance you have doesn’t cover the expense.

Pet owners inevitably face times when their beloved furry friend is in need of medical care, many times care that means life or death. Sometimes it is expensive. And sometimes we simply cannot afford it.

Peter Alberti launched Petchance.org in 2012 with the idea that the company could help pet owners with crowd funding when they faced financial challenges to help their pets.

“In far too many cases, pet owners are forced to sacrifice quality of life for their pets due to financial constraints,” it says on the company’s site. “In the worst cases, people must choose to euthanize a pet when reasonable medical care might have been an option.

Petchance.org is planning its biggest fundraiser to date on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, a 24-hour spinathon to raise money to benefit the charity happening at the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough. At it, 24 teams of 24 people each will ride spinning bikes for an hour per person to raise money for Pet Chance.
